Sonoma State University Butterfly Garden

Sonoma State University Butterfly Garden, East Cotati Avenue, Rohnert Park, CA, USA

Sonoma State University Center for Environmental Inquiry

Registration recommended | This Event is FREE!  |  Food & drink will be provided!

Join SSU’s Center for Environmental Inquiry, SSU’s Kinesiology Department, and community members to celebrate the unveiling of the new and improved SSU Native Plant & Butterfly Garden and Copeland Creek Trail.

Come celebrate major milestones in this interdisciplinary project, involving more than a dozen departments and groups on and off campus. Meet the students, faculty, partners, and others who made this collaborative endeavor a reality.

Also, check out the new QR code educational activities along the trail, and enjoy a revamped garden, new seating, and interactive activities.

Everyone is welcome!

SSU’s native plant and butterfly gardens are important links along the Copeland Creek Corridor, emanating from high on Sonoma Mountain, connecting Fairfield Osborn Preserve to the lower portions of the Russian River watershed. The actions that happen here affect everything downstream. Join SSU to learn about how these beautiful spaces are evolving to provide solace for students and the local community, but also learning about the valuable educational, research and restoration work taking place here.

Logistics

Meet at the Butterfly Garden on the Sonoma State University main campus and do a minimal amount of walking during the event.

The SSU Butterfly Garden is located on the northeast side of campus, along the Copeland Creek Trail. We recommend parking in lot G (click here then select “Sonoma State” to purchase a Daily Parking Permit in advance), or traveling by bicycle or public transportation.

What to Bring

Please bring rain, sun and insect protection as needed, as well as shoes appropriate for walking around a garden.

There is a restroom and potable water available in nearby campus buildings.
